Cinco De Mayo weekend has arrived! Also known as the first celebration of the summer, and also another excuse to party and get plastered all weekend. Cinco this year falls on a monday (Lunes en espanol), so lucky for us that gives us the whole weekend to enjoy the fiesta. Out here in the Pacific Northwest, the area is saturated with Taquerias, or Taco houses. These little restaurants are great places to get fairly authentic, delicious and cheap Mexican food. Many of these Taquerias offer a delicious drink called Horchata. If you’ve never heard of it before, well it’s amazing. And if you have, then you know exactly what I’m getting at. The drink actually originated in El Salvador – but for obvious reasons pertaining mostly to its deliciousness it spread quickly across the Latin Americas. Of course recipes differ depending on where you are exactly in the country, but it is basically comprised of milk, vanilla, rice, cinnamon and sugar. Sounds yummy right? It is. Why am I pouring all this knowledge onto you about some crazy Latin milk drink? Well because it’s the main ingredient in the Romtom cocktail!
